Financial Education
American Savings Education Council
There's nothing more important to ING DIRECT than bringing Americans back to savings, so it was natural to team up with the American Savings Education Council (ASEC) in 2007. ASEC is committed to making savings a priority for all Americans and through a generous donation from ING DIRECT, ASEC was able to fund various initiatives to benefit less fortunate children and families to ensure bright futures and endless opportunities. Now that's what we call saving.
Consumer Credit Counseling Service of DE
You won't have to sit on an uncomfortable couch with this Counseling Service, and that's the way we like it. The Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) provides individuals and families help in resolving financial problems. ING DIRECT helped CCCS in 2007 and 2008 to provide more than 30,000 individuals through counseling sessions and 150,000 through education programs targeted at teaching children financial responsibility.
Junior Achievement
What's more popular than Peet's Coffee from an ING DIRECT café? Employees volunteering for Junior Achievement on behalf of ING DIRECT. The most popular volunteer event among associates, ING DIRECT donates service hours and funds to the largest organization dedicated to financial literacy among children each year. For countless hours each year, ING DIRECT helps students from low and middle income families learn about savings and money through hands-on activities.
Junior League of Wilmington
ING DIRECT teamed up with the Junior League of Wilmington for a not-so-junior cause. In 2007, the Junior League turned East Side Charter School students into saving machines with a creative workshop to get their gears turning. The Junior League is an organization that consists of trained women volunteers and develops the potential of youth through community activities and programs.
Newspapers in Education
Boring traditional bank documents will put anyone to sleep, but the "Adventures in Saving-Story Writing Contest" for ING DIRECT associates was an opportunity to print books about smart saving that are entertaining and fun to read. Newspapers in Education and ING DIRECT made it possible to reach out to children, especially those raised in low and moderate income families, to make sure they have the tools they need to grow up financially literate and prepared.
UDEL Center for Economic Education
What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of "meaningful"? For ING DIRECT and the University of Delaware, it's economics. ING DIRECT generously provided support to the Meaningful Economics Competition sponsored by the University of Delaware's Center for Economic Education. The competition features future saving superstars from grades 3-6 in the state of Delaware.
